Welcome to Lakewood

About Lakewood

Lakewood is located in northern Oconto County, in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and has a population of 875 people.

As with many of the small towns and villages in the area, Lakewood was initially known its timber.  McCaslin Brook was the primary source for moving the cut timber to either the local sawmills or further downstream where the timber would be sold. The timber industry was active as recently as the 1950s. However, in keeping with the old logging days, one tract of land was not cut in order to preserve the 200 to 400 year old timber.

Today, a growing tourist industry has caused Lakewood to become a popular destination. Because of this, there are now many different things to do in the area. Located on Waubee Lake, camp Nan A Bo Sho (a YMCA camp) provides lessons in many outdoor activities. Fishing and boating are extremely popular in the area due to the abundance of lakes around Lakewood. Being in the Nicolet National Forest also allows residents to enjoy the beauty of the forest every day.

Lakewood is a great place to live and play. If you’re looking to buy property in the area, check out one of the listings below and contact an agent today!
